Bus Hours of Operation
Service is provided from 5:15am to 11:15pm, seven (7) days a week. Service in some areas may not be available during these hours. Our Customer Service Representatives will be happy to help you determine if your trip is an eligible ADA trip. Please call 203-288-6643
GNHTD provides a shared ride, door-to-door service to any certified individual who is unable to use the fixed route bus service due to permanent or temporary disabilities.
Fares and conditions
The fare is twice the cost of the fixed route fare, currently $3.50 per one way trip. Children under 4 & Personal Care Attendants ride free. ADA vouchers are available at a discounted price. Please contact GNHTD to verify what tickets you need to travel in your area. Bus operators do not make change.
Rides are available for all trip purposes.
Guests and attendants
You may travel with one (1) guest on the service. Other guests can be accommodated when space is available All guests must pay the same fare as you do. If during your application interview you were certified to bring a Personal Care Attendant, that person may ride with you at no cost. PETS: Registered guide dogs, hearing-ear dogs and small animals in secured containers are allowed.
GNHTD service area
GNHTD provides ADA paratransit service in the Greater New Haven area where CTTransit’s New Haven Division operates. The service is available within a ¾ mile parameter of the fixed route service, excluding express or commuter routes. In order for GNHTD to provide a particular trip, that trip must begin and end within the designated service area. Some trips that cross service areas may require the rider to call one of our partner transit districts to book the reservation. Our Customer Service Representatives will be happy to assist you.

Limits of personal assistance
- The driver will assist you to and from the 1st floor front door of your pick up and drop off location
- Drivers will assist you in safely boarding and exiting the vehicle and will insure that you, your wheelchair or scooter are safely secured
- If requested, drivers will carry up to 3 canvas shopping bags, 5 store plastic bags, and/or one (1) case of water, soda, soup, etc...

Setting up a ride
Reserving A Ride
Once your application has been approved and processed, you may reserve a ride by calling 203-288-6643 seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for the ADA service and 11:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. for the Regional Rides Program (RRP). Rides may be scheduled up to 7 days in advance. Three round trip reservations may be made with each call. Notify call taker if you are bringing a guest or personal care attendant. When calling for a ride, please give the following information to the reservationists:
- Your eligibility card number
- Your name
- Desired pick up address
- Desired drop off address
- Time of requested ride
- Date of requested ride
- Return time

To confirm a ride time
You will receive a call the night prior to your ride confirming the ride time.
Waiting for a ride
Please be prepared for your ride WITHIN THE HALF-HOUR WINDOW confirmed by a customer service representative. You should be waiting at or near the first floor front door of your pick up location where you can see the vehicle or, in the case of persons with sight impairment, where the driver can see you. The driver will wait only five (5) minutes after arrival.
Cancelling a ride
If it is necessary to cancel a ride, you may do this during the night prior call.
- Press 3 on your phone keypad to cancel an individual trip
- Press 9 on your phone keypad to cancel all trips for the next day
Rides may also be canceled by calling 203-288-6643 between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m. If calling before 9:00 a.m. or after 5:00 p.m. to cancel a ride, press 5 and leave a voice mail message. Please specify if you are cancelling part or all of the trip. If possible, it is preferable that you cancel at least 24 hours in advance, so that your reservation may be issued to others.
