Project Schedule and News
The scheduled upcoming events for Fall 2010 is the delivery of the new, innovated, first of its kind in Connecticut Fuel Cell Bus. Following the Fuel Cell Bus’s arrival is the implementation of the groundbreaking Fueling Station. The completion of the Fueling Station will be marked with a “Ribbon Cutting Celebration.” From that point on, the Greater New Haven Transit District (GNHTD) plans to put the HyRide project in operation.
The final project will consist of four main elements. First, the vehicle, this is a 22-foot plug-in fuel cell hybrid electric transit bus. Second, the station, this will execute modern electrolysis technology in order to produce 10 kilograms (kg.) of hydrogen per day (maximum storage capacity of the station is 48 kg. of hydrogen.) Third, the maintenance facilities upgrade, GNHTD will adjust its facilities to accommodate the maintenance and storage of the hydrogen bus. Lastly, the demonstration, GNHTD goal is to present the operating bus as an example that hydrogen can be used as an alternative, efficient fuel in paratransit services. Once all of these components are put into action, the hard work of GNHTD will pay off!
It was only just three years ago in May 2007, GNHTD hosted a Roundtable to introduce the various elements of HyRide to a variety of invited guests. The purpose of the Roundtable was to introduce HyRide and to engage key stakeholders in the early planning of the project. At the Roundtable, GNHTD presented the short and long term goals of the project as well as the benefits it will bring to Connecticut and the challenges it faces along the way. Most importantly, the Roundtable invited stakeholders to comment on the early planning of the project. A great number of supportive, energetic, and interested individuals attended and brought their comments and ideas to the table to benefit Connecticut’s environment and economy.
