A Connecticut Hydrogen Transit Vehicle Development Project
The Program:
The Greater New Haven Transit District (GNHTD) is undertaking an exciting demonstration program to explore the performance and commercial viability of hydrogen fueled transit bus technology in South Central Connecticut. Sponsored by GNHTD and backed by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), this project will result in the reduction of emissions and threats to public health by providing a zero-emission transit service in the greater New Haven area.
The system will be “green” by relying on renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power to create the hydrogen necessary for vehicle operations. The result will be an environmentally friendly transportation system independent of any sources of fossil fuel.
Throughout the development, GNHTD will strive to utilize the resources of Connecticut businesses, educational institutions and public agencies. This “Connecticut First” approach will encourage and facilitate Connecticut involvement to engage the knowledge available in the state to guide and promote the project.
